The Grasmere area is based around the village, lake and vale of the same name, famous for its Wordsworth connections.

Grasmere Village

A village north of Grasmere lake. It has had several famous residents including William Wordsworth (poet), Thomas De Quincey (essayist), William Heaton-Cooper (artist), William Spooner (of spoonerism fame), Canon Rawnsley (co-founder of The National Trust) and Sarah Nelson (cook).

Heaton-Cooper and Sarah Nelson's shops are still in the village, and there are also cafes, restaurants, outdoor shops and a garden centre.
